Steam is set to introduce a helpful feature that will make it clear whether a game is compatible with Sony’s DualSense or DualShock controllers. In an announcement directed at developers, Valve revealed that this feature is scheduled to roll out on Steam’s store and desktop app from October onwards.
Furthermore, Valve hints at the possibility of more controller-friendly features being added to Steam, marking the initial step towards assisting players in identifying games that work seamlessly with the most commonly-used PC video game controllers.

For developers, a new questionnaire has been incorporated into Steamworks, Valve’s game development toolkit designed for its widely-used digital storefront. This survey allows developers to specify whether their game offers complete or partial support for Xbox, DualShock, and DualSense controllers.
Valve has also stated that the filters will provide information on the level of usage for each PlayStation controller, providing gamers with insights into which gamepads are the most popular among players.
Valve’s decision to implement these changes is influenced by the increasing number of players opting for PlayStation controllers. According to Valve, the usage of Sony controllers has surged from 11 percent of gaming sessions in 2018 to a substantial 27 percent at present. Additionally, Valve disclosed that since 2017, over 87 million Steam users have engaged in gaming sessions with a controller.
Among this group, 69 percent have opted for “various versions of Xbox controllers,” while the remainder have utilized “a combination of PlayStation controllers, Switch Pro Controllers, and a multitude of other devices.”
