Apple is gearing up for a significant transition in its accessory lineup, with plans to incorporate USB-C ports across various products, as per insights shared by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. This move comes in the wake of Apple’s shift away from the Lightning connector, notably seen in the iPhone 15 lineup.
In a recent episode of The MacRumors Show podcast, Gurman revealed that Apple aims to embrace USB-C in its accessory ecosystem by the next year. This transition is expected to unfold rather swiftly, reminiscent of the shift to the Lightning connector, introduced back in 2012.

One notable mention is the MagSafe Duo charger, which is due for a refresh to accommodate the USB-C interface. Additionally, Apple is considering updating the MagSafe battery pack to include a USB-C port. While it remains uncertain whether these revamped accessories will make their debut at the upcoming “Wonderlust” event on September 12, Apple’s commitment to USB-C adoption appears resolute.
Gurman further speculated on the potential return of the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock, this time equipped with a USB-C port. Although a substantial number of Apple’s cables and accessories require updates, Gurman does not anticipate any surprises or entirely new accessory categories being unveiled at the iPhone 15 event.

Furthermore, Gurman shed light on an exciting development—the forthcoming MagSafe Battery Pack. While it might not be ready for an immediate launch, this next-generation battery pack promises a novel feature: the ability to “daisy-chain” multiple battery packs. This innovative concept allows users to stack battery packs and wirelessly charge multiple devices simultaneously. For instance, it will be feasible to charge two iPhones concurrently, placing one on each side of the battery pack. Naturally, this MagSafe Battery Pack will sport a USB-C port, aligning with Apple’s broader accessory strategy.
In terms of upcoming product releases, Gurman dispelled any notions of the next-gen AirPods Pro featuring a USB-C port on their charging case. Instead, he suggested that these new AirPods Pro, set to be announced shortly, might not be branded as “third-generation AirPods Pro.” According to Gurman, a more substantial update for the third-generation AirPods Pro is in the pipeline and is expected to make its debut next year or potentially in early 2025.
