Bose has officially introduced its latest audio offerings, the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones and the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds. While their sleek design might not come as a surprise due to an August leak, the standout feature is the incorporation of Bose’s new Immersive Audio technology.

What sets Immersive Audio apart is its accessibility. Unlike other spatial audio formats that require specialized content, Bose’s approach leverages virtualization. The QuietComfort Ultra devices can seamlessly integrate with any streaming service, immersing you in the “acoustic sweet spot.” This is achieved through a combination of onboard components and advanced digital signal processing. Immersive Audio offers two modes, Still and Motion, catering to both stationary and mobile listening experiences. Motion mode uses head tracking to ensure the sound remains in front of you as you move. Of course, you have the option to disable Immersive Audio for the classic Bose audio experience.

During a demo with the spatial audio technology on the QC Ultra Headphones, it became evident that Bose has achieved remarkable results without the need for dedicated immersive content. Both Still and Motion modes were experienced, showcasing enhanced dimensionality, punchier audio, improved clarity, and finer details. Additionally, Bose’s robust active noise cancellation (ANC) remains highly effective, effortlessly silencing simulated street noise.

The design of the QC Ultra Headphones has undergone a refresh, combining elements from previous QuietComfort models and the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700. Notably, the headband now incorporates metal accents for a premium appearance without compromising comfort.

Another notable change is the introduction of a capacitive touch strip for volume control, replacing physical buttons. Located conveniently on the earcup’s edge, this touch control is easily accessible with your thumb. There’s still a physical multi-function button for playback, listening mode adjustments, and call handling. Wired listening is supported with a 3.5mm audio jack, while the QC Ultra Headphones charge via USB-C.
The Immersive Audio technology does impact battery life, offering up to 18 hours of use with active ANC. When disabled, this extends to 24 hours, all while keeping the noise cancellation active. Bose has also promised improved call quality, thanks to the headphones’ ability to isolate your voice amidst 360 degrees of ambient noise.
Moving on to the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds, Immersive Audio remains the standout feature. Bose has enhanced call quality through dynamic microphone mixing and adaptive filters, ensuring your voice is crystal clear. The earbuds also feature a refreshed design with a silver touch panel and a redesigned stability band for secure placement.
