If you’re in the market for a new iPhone, today might just be the worst day to make that purchase. On Tuesday, Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 15 at its highly anticipated Wonderlust event. This means that we can expect Apple to slash the prices of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13, creating space for the new additions.
Apple has a tradition of offering two previous generations of iPhones at discounted rates when they introduce a new model. It’s highly likely that the iPhone 12 will be phased out in light of the event. Here’s a breakdown of Apple’s pricing leading up to the big day:
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: $1,099
- iPhone 14 Pro: $999
- iPhone 14 Plus: $899
- iPhone 14: $799
- iPhone 13: $699
- iPhone 13 Mini: $599
- iPhone 12: $599
- iPhone SE: $429
Apple generally reduces the current price by $100 as they shuffle older models down the lineup and eliminate the oldest one. So, here’s what pricing could potentially look like tomorrow:
- iPhone 14 Plus: $799
- iPhone 14: $699
- iPhone 13: $599
- iPhone 13 Mini: $499
- iPhone SE: $429
However, last year, when Apple adjusted the price of the iPhone 12, it chose to discontinue the iPhone 12 Mini rather than reducing its price to $499. This decision was made despite the fact that it would have brought the Mini’s cost to just $70 more than the iPhone SE.
It doesn’t make sense for Apple to have two phones with such similar price points, particularly when the iPhone 13 Mini outperforms the SE. The only scenario that would make sense is if Apple decides to trim the Mini’s price by $50, bringing it to $549, which is over $100 more expensive than the iPhone SE.
This year, as prices for the new iPhone 15 series are expected to fluctuate, the new pricing structure will likely appear a bit different. However, we don’t anticipate any changes to the pricing of older models unless Apple also decides to cut the prices of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. Earlier this year, there were speculations that Apple was dissatisfied with the sales of the iPhone 15 Plus and was considering a price reduction. Nevertheless, it’s improbable that this would impact Apple’s intentions regarding the iPhone 13 Mini.
Mark Gurman’s reports also indicate that there’s a “low/no stock” situation at Apple Stores for several products anticipated to be discontinued this week, including the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 Mini. These signs strongly suggest that Apple is gearing up to phase out the 5.4-inch phone model.
